Dream healing

Dreams are potent guides, teachers and a healing modality. Recently, I assisted Dr Ed Tick at a dream workshop. In ancient Greece there were dream healing practices at elaborate temples with specific protocols to assist people in gaining guidance and healing from a dream. There is so much available to us for enriching our lives and many ways to heal. The synchronicities in the room of dreamers amazed each of us. When we can drop our egos for the sake of a deeper searching of the psyche (soul) we see the ways that we are profoundly interconnected. We are connected to one another as well with...

Alleviating loneliness

We live in an era of loneliness. Suicides have gone up 30% over the last 30 years. Why is this? Studies suggest we have overemphasized self-reliance and underrecognized our need to connect, to bond which is primary to every living being. Let us remember the richness we are a part of. How do alleviate loneliness? In part, the solution lies in a change in our way of thinking about the fundamentals of life. We are profoundly interconnected with one another as well as with the earth. We are not merely self-serving aggressive beings out for ourselves as the patriarchal brand of the sciences...

webs of connection heal and nurture

Webs of connection heal and nurture. Human and nonhuman connections must be pursued and nurtured to work their magic. Humility and compassion foster understanding, learning and healing. In the words of a coast Salish elder… “When a visitor comes to your home you praise your visitor.  They become like a ‘God’, a “Spirit’ to you.  They are special because they have sacrificed their time to see you, to come and visit you and to encourage you.  So, you listen to them first and they talk about themselves, what they know and everything.  Then after a while, when it feels right—it might...

Connection is magic. Connection heals. Connection is the essence of aliveness. It was a shimmering early spring day. I had walked throughout the park and, noticing I was hungry, I began to walk the path towards where my car was parked. I saw an elderly man holding a cane. He walked very slowly, bent over, holding a cane.  I said “hello” to him and he looked up and said “hi, you can help me walk.” He reached out his hand. I took his hand. Internally, I said to myself “slow down, you don’t have to get back to your car quickly, take this time to be with this...

Going into inner magic

In our culture we emphasize doing over being, we emphasize focusing on the future over the present and the past. We tend to emphasize focusing on our outward life, our goals, our appearance and how other people think of us more then we focus on our inner world.  Our inner world far surpasses our thoughts. Magic will happen there. Some other cultures we can learn from, such as the cultures that practice Buddhism or more indigenous cultures, balance focus on the outside world with reflection and sensing an inner world. Our inner worlds can connect us to ourselves ; that is,  how can we grow,...

The cult of individuality

Phil Borges, filmmaker, said he realized after traveling the world that out culture is particularly individualistic. This can lead to great accomplishments but also great disconnection. The more connections we have in our lives the more healthy we are. We are meant to live in an ecosystem- like way of being. The possibility to connect is everywhere in our hearts and outside in the world. Every morning I take a moment to watch the little birds at the birdfeeder in my backyard. I feel connected to them and my heart...
